The waters that surround the Fiji Islands are very rich in marine life, which serves to attract scuba divers from around the world. Many of the Fijian people have come to realize the benefit of this important "natural resource," and there is now a tremendous growing thrust to take better care of their reefs. The effect has trickled down to the hundreds of villages that are located on the coastline of the islands for which the sea and reefs provide for 80% of their food and recreation.
